TANNENBAUM AUCTION The retirement community of The Homestead at Hickory View will bring extra excitement to the Washington Weihnachten event as it will host the first annual Tannenbaum Auction. Certain to be a new community tradition, local civic and church groups, families, any group that would like, are being invited to be part of the fun, by donating a Christmas tree for the Tannenbaum Auction. The Christmas trees will then be featured at various locations around The Homestead at Hickory View. Visitors, members of the community, and those taking in the Holiday House tour will be given the opportunity to join in the fun and a silent auction for each of the beautifully decorated theme trees, will begin on December 1st and close with the end of the Holiday House Tour at 8 pm. on Sunday, December 13th. The winners of the Tannenbaum Auction will be announced that night, with the winners able to take home their own beautiful Tannenbaum just in time for the holiday. Homestead at Hickory View has asked that all proceeds from the Tannenbaum Auction go to Washington Preservation’s South Point School Project.

Save Old South Point schoolhouse We're moving the South Point Schoolhouse to the Kohmueller Farmstead! |
||||
In early January 2007, Gary Riechers contacted Washington Preservation about the former schoolhouse his family owned, behind the former Riechers Filling Station on Old Hwy 100 east of East Fifth Street. Intrigued WPI visited the schoolhouse to consider what could be done. A building inspection was done and the building was considered to still be sound. Still not sure about the project, as the building's appearance was rough to say the least, WPI contacted some local moving companies to determine what it would cost. Armed with the bid the group went to the Washington City Council to ask if the project could be considered. They were referred to the City of Washington's Park Commission because the location that WPI wanted to move it to, was on the Kohmueller Farmstead, which is in the City's park. Plans were drawn up, asking if the project would receive the City of Washington's stamp of approval. The Park Commission gave it their unanimous approval. After getting the "green light" on August 18, 2008, fundraising began in earnest. For more on the South Point School . . . |

Preservation Month ActivitiesMay is National Preservation Month and we're planning a celebration! Check back here for more details on the Heart of Washington Dinner, where our Annual Preservation Awards are given. If you know a home, business or person who has the preservation spirit, let us know, please Contact Us now. Washington Weihnachten - Holiday House Tour - Christkindl Markt -Tannenbaum Auction Holidays are a special treat in historic Washington. We began the Holiday House Tour in 1988, and because of the event being cancelled in 2001, due to the events of 9/11, we held our 19th tour on December 14, 2008. Our Washington Weihnachten or Washington Christmas,is a tribute to our German ancestry, with a special addition this past year of a traditonal outdoor Christkindl Markt in our town's marketplace, the award winning historic Farmer's Market. Join us on Sunday, December 13, 2009 as we present our 20th Annual Holiday House Tour. Mark your calendars now! We have already begun lining up houses for the 2009 tour, and if you know a home we should consider please contact us. |
